Following the peak of the mining boom, the levels of production and number of projects in the market is still high, and the industry is facing severe supply backlogs. To further compound the problem, equipment and skills shortages are still causing further procurement and supply challenges. The pressure to reduce costs and streamline overall procurement processes is greater than ever.

An essential component of creating an effective and successful procurement processes is improving relationships with suppliers. At Mining and Procurement and Supply June 2012, Paul Shinn, Technical Director and Group Functional Contracts Leader at Aurecon facilitated a roundtable discussion to address how consistent communication with main suppliers can be ensured to maintain and improve relationships.
