Advanced materials will bring about steady changes and improvements much like dynamite did, but nothing will have the explosive effect of transforming the mining today industry like the latest advance in air transport technology to open up new remote mines worldwide.
When added together, new mines that have required the construction of lengthy roads, railways, power stations, airports and linkages to the outside world doubled the costs of building the mines/mill/smelters alone. This pushed the ROI out beyond a decade and made many operations marginal.
