Gold Mining and the Use, Quality and Availability of Water

The impact of gold mining on the use of water in areas in close proximity of the mines is discussed. Because of the differences in ore types, mining methods, and processing techniques it is difficult to make generalizations about the gold mine’s water foot print impact on its immediate surroundings. The impact of climate, especially in heap leach operations is also discussed. Water usage at specific mines is discussed illustrating the complexity of data gathering and normalizing.
