One of the most talked about commodities at present is graphite - until recently a useful, but rather unspectacular material. Graphite has had its long-held uses in the steel and lubricants industries, but speculative excitement has more recently begun to build due to its growing role in modern, 'new-age' applications - such as lithium-ion batteries, photovoltaic cells and other high-tech uses.

In this report I've sought to shed some light on the graphite industry - to look at where graphite comes from, its uses and some of its future applications - a sort of Graphite 101.
