Dust control in coal mines is an area of focus for all mining professionals as proper dust control makes underground ventilation systems more effective. In addition to this, good dust control practices will ensure safety of the working environment while making it more productive. In this interview, Yoginder Chugh, Professor and Director at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, speaks to Amber Scorah of Mining IQ to give a deeper understanding of the intricacies of dust control and its impact on safety, mine productivity and cost control.

Professor Chugh’s background and expertise is the area of underground coal mines, thus his answers are biased toward that. However, the concepts developed are equally valid in tunnels, surface mining, and non-coal mining.
