Smarter car-loading to boost iron ore rail capacity

Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) is expecting to enhance its rail capacity in Western Australia’s Pilbara region thanks to an innovative method for precisely measuring the loading of train cars.

RTIO says it hopes to introduce the method at one mine in the coming months and estimates that it could result in approximately three million extra tonnes of iron ore per year being transported by rail when deployed at all suitable Pilbara mines.
